Worship, leadership, community

Deuteronomy 16-18; Mark 13:1-20

Worship. Leadership. Community life. The laws in Deuteronomy boil down to these three categories. God is the master of the universe, so he can make up any laws he wants, right?

So why does he make laws about these three aspects of life? These aren’t particularly spiritual or religious things, either. It’s pretty normal life stuff.

Deuteronomy is not a book for churchy people. These are people who have never gone to church, never read the Bible, never gone on a mission trip. These are people who don’t know any better. This is the very first time that God has explained just how exactly he wants his people to act.

And it all comes down to a right and wrong way to pay attention to God, a right and wrong way to lead people, and a right and wrong way to live in community with people.
