Genesis: Consequences

Genesis 4:1–26

One day, Eve eats some fruit. Years later her son dies.

Everything is connected. The snake probably didn’t tell her that. What if it had?

Today’s reading is all about consequences. It’s more than a domestic dispute leading to the first murder. Chapter 3 leaves us as readers on the edge our seats like a great mystery novel thinking What happens now?

What happens is the monster call “Sin” wreaks havoc on the Image-bearers of God—from Cain down through generations to Lamech. When God gives Cain a pep talk, he describes Sin like something straight out of a horror movie, but that it can be beaten and ruled. But Cain and Lamech don’t. And neither do we.

If you knew the consequences 10 years down the road of the choices you’ll make today, would you make those choices?

So what about you? What do you see?
